The story behind
Barren Grace

January, 2009, Buffalo NY.

The trip to Buffalo had been a great family vacation with the in-laws and we were leaving the next day. There had been snow on the ground when we arrived Christmas Eve, but it was washed clean away by the rains, and there wasn't another flake to been seen - until New Year's Eve night. The snow beautifully coated everything in sight in the moonlight/city lights.

The next day I followed-up with a model who had been interested in doing a snow shoot, and she was available. Mid-afternoon, New Year's Day, 20° F, we met at the shoot location where we executed three poses; Tree, Field, and River settings. After rehearsing poses and checking exposures, the model quickly snapped to the decided pose, and within 15 seconds later was snuggled back into her layers of clothing. By the third shoot by the river, we headed back to the cars to turn the heat on HIGH. Only a 40-minute session, but great results!

Barren Grace was the second of the three captures, and provides an amazing juxtaposition of the graceful flowing of the figure and the grasses against an otherwise cold and barren setting.
